Useful information for children and parents

  • Special security limits for minors:
    — daily limit for cash withdrawal 200 EUR and up to 500 EUR per month
    — transfers up to 500 EUR, if the child is under 18. In this case child will be granted certain rights in the online bank with the permission of the parents.
  • For the parents of younger children: you can monitor your child’s spending in the mobile app and online bank, and be by their side as they learn to manage their money.
  • Quickly and conveniently transfer money to your child’s account within seconds, even if your account is with another bank.
  • Both the young person and parent can block a lost or stolen card by calling 6701 0000.
  • Change the PIN code even if you don’t remember the old one in the app, if your settings allow.

Ready to apply?

  • Citadele customers can open an account for their children in online bank - it takes only a few minutes to complete the application.
  • Aged between 7 and 18: you can only apply for a C smart card with your parents in their online bank or at a Citadele branch. Child's presence is not necessary for a parent to be able to open account for the child.
  • Those aged 16 and above with a regular income (scholarship or wage) can open an account at a branch by themselves.
  • Aged between 18 and 21: apply with a selfie via the Citadele mobile app and receive your C smart card remotely.
  • Receive your card within 15 minutes when you apply at one of these branches: 2A Republikas Laukums and Spice Home in Riga, and the Liepāja and Daugavpils branches.

Task tool

Task Tool is an addition to Citadele app, empowering customers to create tasks for their family and friends. Moreover, it helps parents discuss finances with kids and lets kids try earning their first pay.

  • To use Task Tool, both the task sender and task recipient must be Citadele clients, have Citadele app installed, and have activated an option to pay to the mobile phone number. The sender must be at least 18 years old.
  • In the app go to More > Tasks and create your first task. Choose a task from the category list or create your own. Set a description, select a due date and amount of a reward. Ready? Press Send!
  • Once the task is completed, the recipient marks it as done and the sender can approve it and pay the reward.
  • Don’t want to do the task? You can also decline it.

Modern contactless payments

  • Payment bracelet if you don’t want to take your card or wallet with you. It is waterproof and available in four colours: red, white, purple and black.
  • Apple Pay if you are aged 13 or over, or Google Pay and Garmin Pay, if you are aged 16 or over.
  • No need to enter a PIN code for payments up to 50 EUR.
  • The payment sticker for children and youth under 16 (including) is free of charge.

How do I apply for an C smart card, what documents are required?

Citadele customers can open an account for their children in online bank - Correspondence with Bank → Open C smart bundle for minor.

Up to 18 years, if your parents are not Citadele clients - if you're a parent who wants to open an account for their child, there's no need to take the child with you!

If the child has reached the age of 15, remember to bring:
- the parent or guardian’s passport / ID card;
- the child’s passport / ID card. Birth certificate also must be presented, if there is no entered child’s information in the parents’ passport.

If the child has not reached the age of 15, remember to bring:
- the parent or guardian’s passport / ID card;
- birth certificate or child's passport / ID card. If there is no entered child’s information in the parents' passport, then a birth certificate must be submitted in addition to child's ID document.

From 16 years with a regular income: scholarship or work wages. You can apply for an C smart card without the presence of a parent or guardian at a branch.
Remember to bring: a passport or ID card and a work contract or statement from an educational institution confirming a scholarship.

Applying for your child or ward’s C smart set through the online bank

If you are a bank customer with a valid citizen’s ID card or passport issued in Latvia, you can submit an application to open an account for your child remotely through the online bank.

To open an account for your child or ward, go to the online bank and select Correspondence with bank, then open the order form labelled Open an C smart set for a child.
Bear in mind! With this application, your child (or ward) will become a customer of AS “Citadele Banka,” and will receive the following bank products:

  • an C smart card linked to a current account;
  • online banking access and a MobileSCAN authorisation tool;
  • the option of signing up to our loyalty programme and receiving prizes.

Other services cannot be included in this application process!

In the application form, you will receive information on the services your child or ward will receive once the form has been submitted.

The application form will ask you to enter information about your child or ward - please give precise information.

Please include the following ID documents:

  • An image of your child or ward’s ID document (compulsory if your child or ward has reached the age of 15). Please do not disclose the photo or other information in the image;
  • Your child or ward’s original birth certificate;
  • An image of the page of the parent’s passport giving details of their children (only if the child’s ID document has also been submitted);
  • Guardians must submit confirmation of guardianship status from the Orphan’s Court or another document confirming guardianship rights.

We will review the application within 2 business days. We will send an online banking username and password to your child’s phone number.
You will receive an C card and PIN code by post within a week. We will inform you of the processing status of your application by SMS to your phone number.

How do I apply for the C REWARDS prize and discount program?

To receive C REWARDS discounts from our partners, you must notify the cashier before making the purchase that you will be paying with an C smart card. After registering at xrewards.lv, each purchase with an C smart card will earn C REWARDS points (1 EUR = 2 points). The points you earn can be exchanged for various prizes. Discount locations and prizes can be viewed on the C REWARDS website.

What if I lose my card?

Up to 18 years. You can block your card in the Citadele app or by calling 6701 0000. A parent or guardian can apply for a new card by calling 6701 0000.

From 16 years (with a regular income) and young people over the age of 18. You can block your card in the Citadele app or by calling 6701 0000, while you can apply for a replacement in the online bank or by calling 6701 0000. 

What access rights are there to the mobile app?

Up to 18 years. If the monitoring regime has been selected for the online bank, then both the child and parent (or guardian) can use the app to see account balance, the card, purchases and C REWARDS points. If the special regime has been selected for the online bank, the young person will be able to use the app to make transfers, activate the card, change the PIN code, and block and unblock cards. 

From 16 years (with a regular income) and young people over the age of 18. All operations are available in the mobile app: money transfers, card activation, blocking or unblocking cards, and PIN code changes. 

What access rights do children, young people and parents have to the online bank?

Up to 18 years. The online bank usage regime is chosen by the parents. Options include a monitoring regime or a special regime allowing transfers from their account, payments, blocking or unblocking cards, and card replacement. A child’s parent or guardian can only monitor their child’s spending and view account balance and transactions in the monitoring regime.

From 16 years (with a regular income) and young people over the age of 18. All operations are available in the online bank: money transfers, blocking or unblocking cards, replacing cards and applying for bank products.

What if I have forgotten my card’s PIN code?

Up to 18 years. You can change your PIN code in the Citadele app. If you do not have access to the app, you must visit a branch with a parent or guardian to replace the card. A parent or guardian can also do this without the presence of the child by calling  +371 6701 0000 or visiting a branch.

From 16 years (with a regular income) and young people over the age of 18. Conveniently change the PIN code at any time in the Citadele app.
