Why you'll love Piggybank

Piggybank is a smart feature in the Citadele mobile app that effortlessly turns your spare change into savings by rounding upyour purchases with payment card. Open a Piggybank, activate round-ups for your card, and use it or a linked contactless payment tool — like a ring, phone, watch, or other device — to pay. Give it a try!

  • Automatic & effortless. Your small change turns into big savings without lifting a finger.
  • Full control. Enable or disable round-ups anytime, adjust the rounding amount, choose a multiplier, and manage linked cards.
  • No fees, no hassle – 100% free. Easy to use and simple to manage.

Save at your own pace, as much as you want, whenever you want.

Automatic savings

Spend as usual, and we’ll round up your purchases to turn spare change into real savings!

Every time you pay with your card, Piggybank saves the difference between your purchase and your chosen round number. The rounded-up amount will be automatically transferred from your card account to your Piggybank — but only if there are sufficient funds in your account.

Important!
If your card has a credit limit, some of that credit might be used for rounding.

Supercharge your savings!

Multiply your round-ups by 2x, 3x, 5x, or even 10x to reach your goals faster.

Example
Purchase amount: 4.30 EUR
Rounded to the nearest 1 EUR: 5.00 EUR
Round-up amount: 0.708 EUR (5.00 EUR - 4.30 EUR)
Multiplier (2x): 0.70 × 2 = 1.40 EUR saved.

Getting started is easy!

Step one.

Open the Citadele mobile app.

Step two.

Find the Piggybank banner on the home screen or go to Services, find Savings, and select Piggybank.

Step three.

Choose one or several card accounts for round-ups.

Step four.

Adjust rounding & multiplier settings. That’s it – save without noticing.

How do I close a child’s Piggybank account?

Parents can submit a free-form application through the online bank under: Correspondence with the bank. Parents can close their child's Piggybank account up to the age of 15 (inclusive). From the age of 16, the child must close their Piggybank account themselves.

What is a Piggybank?

The Piggybank is a smart savings feature in the Citadele mobile app. It automatically rounds up your purchases to the nearest 0.10 EUR or 1 EUR, and the difference is transferred to your Piggybank. If you wish to save faster, you can set up a multiplier. Round-ups will only work if the feature is enabled, at least one card is linked, and your card account has enough funds for both the purchase and the round-up.

How do I open a Piggybank?

  1. Log into the Citadele mobile app.
  2. On the main screen find the Piggybank banner or go to: Savings → Open Piggybank.
  3. Select rounding options: 0.10 EUR or 1 EUR and, if desired, activate the multiplier.
  4. Link one or more payment cards from which the savings will be made.
  5. Confirm the settings – from now on, money will start accumulating automatically after each purchase.

Why can I only open a Piggybank in the mobile app?

The app provides easier usage, faster performance, and the ability to conveniently link payment cards.

How does the Piggybank work?

After each purchase with the linked card, the purchase amount is rounded up and the difference is automatically transferred to your Piggybank from your card account. Your card account must have enough funds to cover both the purchase and the round-up. You can increase the amount transferred to savings by adding a multiplier.

What is the difference between a Piggybank and a savings account?

A savings account is a traditional account with free access and interest, available from the age of 18. A Piggybank is an automated micro-savings tool based on round-ups from your purchases, available from the age of 7.

How do I deposit money into my Piggybank?

You can deposit money using the automatic rounding function in the mobile app.

How do I withdraw money from my Piggybank?

You can withdraw money at any time via the mobile app or online bank by transferring it to your current account, savings account, or Green Savings account at Citadele.

Are there any restrictions or fees for withdrawing money from my Piggybank?

No, withdrawals are free at any time.

Can I transfer money from my Piggybank to another account?

Yes, but only to another of your accounts — current account, Savings account, or Green Savings account — at Citadele.

How does purchase rounding work?

Purchase rounding is an automatic savings feature that helps you save money effortlessly. Every time you pay with a card linked to your Piggybank, the purchase amount is rounded up to the nearest EUR 0.10 or EUR 1.00 (depending on your chosen setting), and the difference is credited to your Piggybank.

The rounded amount is taken from your account at the moment when funds are reserved for the purchase and immediately transferred to your Piggybank. If the purchase amount is already a round number, nothing is transferred to your Piggybank.

Examples of rounding to the nearest 1 EUR:

  • You buy a chocolate for 2.40 EUR → rounded up to 3.00 EUR → 0.60 EUR goes to your Piggybank.
  • You buy a train ticket for 3.80 EUR → rounded up to 4.00 EUR → 0.20 EUR goes to your Piggybank.
  • You buy a book for 10.63 EUR → rounded up to 11.00 EUR → 0.37 EUR goes to your Piggybank.

Total savings: 0.60 + 0.20 + 0.37 = 1.17 EUR.

If you choose to round up to the nearest 0.10 EUR, the savings will be smaller, but they will still gradually accumulate, helping you reach your goal effortlessly.

Can I choose the amount to which the rounding occurs?

Yes, in the app you can choose whether you want to round up to the nearest 0.10 EUR or 1 EUR. You can change the settings at any time.

Can I turn off rounding-up?

Yes, you can turn off rounding-up in the Piggybank settings within the app at any time. Whenever you wish, you can resume using the rounding-up feature.

How often is the rounded-up amount transferred to Piggybank?

The rounded-up amount is transferred to Piggybank as soon as funds are reserved for a purchase with the linked payment card. This means rounding takes place at the time of purchase authorization, not after the final processing of the payment.

Since the final transaction amount can change (for example, partial refund or deposit for rental), the rounded-up amount may differ from the final payment amount.

You can review all round-ups in the Piggybank account overview in the mobile app or online bank.

Is there a limit to how much I can save in my Piggybank?

Currently, there is no limit on the amount you can save in your Piggybank. The maximum amount from which interest is calculated is 10 000 EUR.

What is the multiplier function?

The multiplier allows each rounded amount to be multiplied, for example, x2, x3, x5, or x10, so that your savings grow even faster.

How does the multiplier setting work?

For example, if a purchase is rounded by 0.30 EUR and you have set the multiplier to x2, then 0.60 EUR will be credited to your Piggybank. If the multiplier is x3, 0.90 EUR will be credited, and so on. Of course, your account must have sufficient funds.

How do I switch off the multiplier?

You can change your multiplier setting to x1 in the app, and your round-up will be transferred without multiplying.

Why isn't rounding up working?

Rounding up can fail for various reasons.

  • Rounding up is disabled – check your Piggybank settings in the mobile app to ensure the function is enabled.
  • No transaction performed – make sure the purchase was made with the card linked to the Piggybank.
  • The purchase amount is already a round number – for example, if the purchase is exactly 3.00 EUR and rounding up is to the nearest 1 EUR, no savings are generated.
  • Insufficient funds in your account – check the account balance to ensure there is enough for rounding up.
  • No linked card, or it has been closed or restricted – check if the payment card linked to the Piggybank is active.

You can review all transactions and round-up reports in the mobile app or online bank. If you need assistance, contact customer support.

How do I close my Piggybank?

You can close your Piggybank by submitting an application to close the account through the online bank under: Correspondence with the bank.

What happens to my Piggybank if I close my main account?

Your Piggybank cannot be your only active account with the bank. If you want to close your main account, you must first close your Piggybank.

How can I track my savings in the Piggybank?

You can review your savings in both the mobile app and online bank. In the Piggybank section you will see all transactions and your balance.

Does rounding occur if the total amount exceeds the available funds in my account?

If the purchase amount together with the round-up exceeds the available funds in your account, rounding does not occur. If your card has a credit limit, the round-up can be taken from this.
